Tradition tells us that it was potany a great mythical fish who first brought pounamu. The greenstone to our lands and water s – this pounamu became our most treasured possession. From it we carved fishhooks and they became our most valued form of personal adornment. The hook reflecting the status of pounamu and fishing in our culture.
